Founding Director, De Matos Ryan

 

José Esteves de Matos is a graduate of Cambridge and Harvard University and Founding Director of De Matos Ryan, an award-winning London based architectural practice.

Since its inception in 1999, the practice has established a strong reputation in hospitality, education and cultural design, combining expertise in architecture, interiors and landscape to create imaginative and well-detailed modern environments, producing work on a variety of scales.

Recent projects include the new members rooms for the British Library, refurbishment of Sadler’s Wells Theatre London; development of York Mansion House, as a ‘living Museum’ and the refurbishment of Theatre Royal. Current projects completing in 2018 include: a mixed-use development on Blackfriars Road, London and the redevelopment of St George’s Hall, Bradford - the oldest purpose-built music hall in Britain.

Most recently, De Matos Ryan won the open competition for the redesign of the V&A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London.
