Movie is said to be the metaphor of red wine that gets better with age. The older the wine, the smoother it is. Good movies can always stand the test of time. A gallery-like space is vividly presented, mimicking an art gallery that displays classical movies to arouse old wonderful memories.
As the audience steps into the cinema lobby, they would feel like touring around an art gallery, allowing them to slow down and absorb themselves in the movie poster decorations. The main color scheme of the cinema is black and white, squares in different sizes can be found on various surfaces, creating a sense of elegance and serenity. Posters of old movies are mounted in simple and neat big frames. The frames for new movie posters are slightly different, the edges of these frames are glowing, not only bring variation to the decorations, but also clearly differentiate which movies are currently on air. The designers arranged these frames in a casual manner, expressing a more relaxing tone in the design.
The brick wall in the lobby was painted in black and white, bringing texture to the simply designed wall surface. The brick wall has also created a sense of nostalgia, audience would feel as if they are in the 80s. The walls are painted with big black squares, lying across walls and columns, connecting the walls and ceiling. The squares are painted in a dynamic way, these squares are like jumping here and there around the audience. Loose furniture are placed in the rest area in the lobby, these black sofas and coffee tables enable the audience to relax and at the same time serve as part of the decoration. The furniture echo with other decorations in the lobby, translating a feeling of passage of time. The black and white carpets match with black square patterns on the walls and ceiling, surrounding the audience to create a harmonized character.
The central design theme of art gallery is presented in the auditorium. The carpets are decorated with custom-made grid pattern, filled with black and white color randomly, imitating the intriguing square patterns in the lobby. The theme also extends to the washroom. Frames in the lobby take the form of black metal installations, and are suspended above the hand wash basins in the washroom. Elongated lights are installed along these frames for illumination and decoration.
