One Welbeck is a specialist facility for minimally-invasive day surgery and outpatient diagnostics in central London. This first phase delivers centres for digestive health, cardiology, imaging, diagnostics and orthopaedics across five floors with a phased completion between late 2019 and early 2020.

Designed to be calm, personable and welcoming, a palette of materials including timber panelling, perforate metallic privacy screens and soft furnishings create a sense of warmth and comfort not often associated with healthcare environments. Clinical requirements have been carefully balanced with the materials and products selected at all scales, from the articulation of the ceilings through to the fabrics selected for the furniture. Generous reception areas and waiting lounges are designed to feel welcoming. Slatted metal panels offer privacy, whilst ambient lighting and soft furnishings are introduced to make visitors feel at ease. Reeded glass doors throughout the centre provide privacy, whilst allowing natural light to penetrate into circulation spaces and sub wait areas.

Corridors are lined in a warm cherry veneer, and a bespoke geometric flooring pattern reflects the iconic neighbouring car park which has been recently demolished. Cherry lined ‘pods’ provide restful places for day patients to recover. With en-suite bathrooms, bespoke furniture and slatted timber privacy screens, these pods have a sense of quiet and seclusion. The FF+E incorporates bespoke items of furniture and domestic-style pieces not usually associated with clinical environments. A careful selection of original artwork has also been arranged across each floor to subtly engage patients and create a sense of warmth.
