Patient-centered design was integral to the project, with careful attention to creating a comforting, calming environment. Natural light floods patient recovery rooms and waiting areas, while biophilic elements such as indoor greenery and local flora-inspired art foster a connection to nature. Situated near the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the project embraces the rich natural heritage of its surroundings, infusing biophilic elements throughout the design. This connection to nature not only creates a therapeutic environment for patients but also fosters a sense of community through its visual integration with the local green spaces. These elements, along with the use of warm materials like wood and stone, enhance the overall patient experience. Private patient suites offer individualized controls for lighting and temperature, allowing patients to personalize their environment for maximum comfort, promoting both physical recovery and emotional well-being. The overall design ensures that Cura Day Surgery Center is not just a clinical space, but a nurturing, healing environment for patients.
Our approach to sustainability is rooted in thoughtful architectural and interior design. Capitalizing on the uniquely circular floorplate of the Camden Medical Office Center, the project integrates biophilic principles, maximizing natural light and incorporating views of surrounding greenery to all waiting areas and patient recovery rooms to create a calming, restorative environment for patients and staff. By optimizing daylight through simulations, the design reduces artificial lighting usage by 32%, achieving a Lighting Power Density (LPD) of under 0.5 watts per square foot, significantly lowering energy consumption and the center’s carbon footprint by approximately 19%. With Cura, we committed to a sustainable material palette that aligns with Singapore’s heritage and cultural history. Our material choices reflect not only aesthetic and functional qualities but also a deep concern for sustainability. Responsibly sourced materials such as local wood and marble reflect Singapore's cultural heritage while minimizing the environmental impact of long-distance shipping. The deliberate choice to work with local vendors supports clean manufacturing practices and reduces emissions, aligning with Singapore’s environmental goals. Every selection was to have a local supplier, vendor or manufacturer that was based in Singapore. If not, an alternative would have to be found.
