Client: New Orient Group
Steeped into history - located on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, ” Lok-Kok Teahouse ” was once a famous ”Big-Four” tea-houses in Macao, founded in 1913 by the famous GuangZhou merchant , ”Tan Kit Nam”. The newly-renovated heritage ”San Tung Fong Commerical Inn North Wing” is listed by”Macao Cultural Affair Bureau Department”, for classification of “Edifícios De Interesse Arquitectónico” (directly translated as “Buildings Of Architectural Interest”). After being left derelict for 33 years, New Orient Group has transformed the former teahouse into a boutique hotel with 62 guest rooms on one of Macao’s busiest streets. The hotel’s public areas are designed in an art-deco style, with natural oak, walnut, and emerald green handmade tiles adorning the walls and ceilings, accented with bronze and emerald metal strips. Such design of these patterns and colors draws inspiration from the original Lok-Kok Restaurant’s dining spaces with a modern and minimalistic twist. Decorative tiles and windows of the original building also inspired the design of the floor pattern at the lounge area, which combines historical motifs with modern materials.
