Shanghai Guang-Ci Memorial Hospital

SHUISHI

Shanghai Guang-Ci Memorial Hospital, stemming from L'Hopital Sainte Marie founded in 1907 by the Catholic Church in the French Concession in Shanghai, has a history of over 100 years. Now a Sino-foreign joint venture medical institution under Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, it is committed to providing customers with full-life-cycle health products and high-quality medical services. Located in Sinan Road, a core historical feature protection zone of Huangpu District, it is adjacent to Fuxin Park, the city’s only well-preserved French style garden, and many protective historical building complexes. It was officially completed in January 2022, covering an area of 2,330㎡ and a building area of 6,550㎡. The biggest challenge lies in how to let the hospital gain a new life in inheriting historical characteristics through image and functional improvements. In view of the mediocre and dilapidated facade, it launches image transformation to enhance the individuality and perfectly integrate with the block style, stressing both modern aesthetics and brand characteristics. The reception area adds distinctive French elements, and the arched gallery tells the long history of Guang-ci. The exquisite materials are permeated with a rich elegant atmosphere, giving visitors a noble experience. The outpatient area abandons the cold image of traditional hospitals. We try to create a people-oriented space and let the patients and medical staff experience comfort and happiness here by optimizing the foot traffic and use functions, and applying natural and comfortable materials and colors.
